There is a 1st Century letter written by Paul of Tarsus that suggests it is possible The Burial Shroud of Jesus was moved into the catacombs of Rome in appx 65AD. If not the Shroud, a very good reproduction of the face image. The Shroud was possibly kept hidden there in the early centuries from enemies of the Christian movement who sought out to destroy it. It was also used as a model to do the some of the frescoes found throughout these catacombs, (Underground tombs)
Highly valued relics were often hidden in catacombs to keep them from being destroyed by enemies of Christ in that time. The Turin Shroud/Burial Shroud Of Jesus would have been #1 on that list of things. The catacombs of Rome is a place no one would expect The Shroud to be kept hidden.
However, how it got back to Edessa Turkey later on makes the possibility The Shroud was in Rome seem less probable.
But evidence that Paul of Tarsus displayed the Shroud in Galatia is very strong.
Paul makes reference to The Shroud in Galatians 1 vs 3

Paul of Tarsus again makes reference to the Shroud in 2 Timothy 4:13 Where he instructs him to bring the Shroud from Southern Turkey into Rome.
"The Cloak/φαιλόνην that I left in Troas" (Southern Turkey) When you come to ROME, Bring THE SHROUD WITH YOU.
The word φαιλόνην is the word Paul of Tarsus wrote to describe the Burial Cloth of Jesus. This a dual feminine noun that means CLOAK and LIGHT. Derived from the Greek Word PHOS which means TO SHINE or make manifest, especially by rays.
PHOS is also defined as being A HEAVENLY LIGHT such as surrounds angels when they appear on Earth.
Why is Paul of Tarsus using a word φαιλόνην, that combines HEAVENLY LIGHT WITH A CLOAK/SHROUD?
Why indeed, because He is referring to the Mandylion/Shroud of Turin. Paul of Tarsus WOULD NOT USE use a dual feminine noun that means HEAVENLY LIGHT and CLOAK/SHROUD to describe some ordinary garment! The word, φαιλόνην is given a very vague and incomplete translation of "cloak" in 2 Timothy 4:13. THIS IS NOT JUST SOME ORDINARY CLOAK!!!
The word φαιλόνην is also never used again in the Bible or any ancient scripture, A one of a kind word used to describe a one of a kind item.
The Burial Shroud of Jesus, The Shroud of Turin!!!
The fresco paintings of Jesus on the walls of the catacombs from 1st to 5th Century paint more than just a thousand words. IT IS ROCK SOLID EVIDENCE THE SHROUD WAS IN ROME AND WAS USED AS A ROLE MODEL IN THE EARLY CENTURIES TO MAKE THE FRESCOES.
There is a 1st century fresco of the Face of Jesus that I placed over the Face of the Shroud image so we can all clearly see that the Shroud served as a model for the fresco.
As in all things the genuine thing has to exist 1st before there can be a imitation. The Turin Shroud is the genuine thing.

The Mandylion/φαιλόνην was stolen/ taken from Constantinople in 1204 and seemingly disappeared but re surfaced again in France in 1352, The Shroud of Turin would still be called The MandyLion today had it not been for this gap in the shrouds history.
A Mandya/Mantle was typically used by someone in high position, as in a high priest, Jesus is the New High Priest and is a LION FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH. that is why they called it The MANDYLION.
